In this Part 5 and my final in the Traffic Series I will be talking about Social Network Traffic

By Far MySpace holds the highest amounts of traffic in the social networking arena. MySpace has over 100 million users. And holds 80% of the social networking traffic. For this reason I am going to concentrate on showing you how to drive traffic using MySpace.

Once you have mastered MySpace you can take these same techniques and use them on other Social Networking Sites.

The first thing you need to do is signup for a MySpace Site. Go to myspace.com and click on the signup link. Follow the instructions till you have successfully created your account.

You will end up with a page with your picture on it and a few other things. We will call this your Home Page.

At the top is the MySpace Navigation Banner.

This navigation banner will be used to take you to different pages. The Home link will take you to your Home Page as we defined earlier and the browse link will come in handy as it lets you search for specific information throughout your space.

For our purposes the search, invite, film really won’t be of much use because it is used for finding people related information like what school they are from, a tell-a-friend script or looking for movies.

Mail is for checking your messages in your MySpace.

The Blog may be one of the most important parts of your MySpace as it has been proven that Google does in fact check and update it’s results from MySpace Blogs.

Favorites again not of much use to us.

Forums are not like the ones we are use to but is a place where people can come and talk about whatever your forum is about. This is a good place to market your site. More about that later.

Groups are more like our forums and another great place to market your site.

Events is a calendar of what’s happening in your area.

Videos is another great marketing tool you could put a viral video in your MySpace video section. If you get enough hits to your video it could end up on the front page of MySpace.

Music and Comedy won’t be of much use to us.

Classifieds you could use to try and sell your products however it is really designed for physical goods so you may not get much from this.

Ok so that’s just to give you ad idea of MySpace Now let’s get into how to use this.

You should be on the home page and the first thing you want to do is make it look more like a real site. Go to the add pictures and add some pictures.

People will see these pictures to decide weather to come to your site so make sure they are good pictures. You can try and tell a story with your pictures try and figure out what kind of audience you are trying to attract and make your pictures draw that crowd.

On MySpace Be very clear act like you are talking to a 1st grader. Most people on MySpace don’t know what Internet Marketing is much less a bunch of terms about it.

Pick a good URL ex. www.myspace.com/makeamillion tells you what the site is about.

You want them to remember your URL so they can easily get there or tell someone about it.

The about me is where you will pre-sell your product. But you need to be cautious as the about me really needs to have a story you essentially want it to be like most other myspace sites. That being said I would take some time to browse through myspace and see what normal MySpace users do with there site. You want your site to blend or you won’t get traffic.

The key is that you don’t make anything sound like an advertisement. So complete the rest of your profile by thinking along the lines of telling something about what you do but not make it sound like and advertisement.

For instance the “Who I’d like to Meet” if you are selling cars you could say Well, everyone who wanted to buy a fancy car has already met me!

I know that’s a dumb example but you get the idea. Be creative.

In the areas that ask about your interests you need to be very generic. Remember you are trying to appeal to everyone. So for Music, Movies etc. You might say I like almost all type of music.

Once you have your profile all done the only thing left to do is add friends.

Be sure to keep good fresh content on your site so that people keep coming back and so that your site will get a bigger viewing audience.

To sum it up the difference in myspace and regular marketing is that you don’t want your myspace to seem like you are trying to market. You want to appear as a regular person.

As a general rule you should be able to get around 20 to 50 leads a day from your myspace.

Sincerely,
Glen Barnhardt
