List Building Tips: 3 Easy Ways to Capture more Leads [and What to Avoid]

List building is about getting more people type in their email into your web form. Here are 3 ways to capture more leads, quickly and easily. List building tips anyone can use, without spending money on advertising or risking their life.
#1 – Ask for less!
The so-called “smarty” marketers love getting into your life. Oh boy! I am not talking about cold calling. Did you ever wanted to join a free newsletter but got stuck when entering your details?
If you are like me, you have seen those “average” web forms with never ending fields such as name, e-mail, address, zip code, etc.
As a general rule of thumb, if you want to capture more leads into your web form, ask for less details. My experience proved that having just the “e-mail” field available on your form increases your subscription rate by up to 5%.
Do you know the psychological explanation behind this? People are hesitant to do business with people they do not know or trust. So asking for any other personal details beside the “anonymous” e-mail is like asking your partner to have intimate relationship on your first date.
A “daring” web form puts people off; heartbeat site exit would be their only solution.
By the way, if you are wondering why most guys do not get girls it is because they are trying to french kiss instead of hand shake.
#2 – Promise less!
The best list building advice I could give you today is to build your own lead capture page. Some call this a squeeze page because it is an offer made on the front screen only – without you having to scroll the page and type in your email address.
I would not go into details on how to build your lead capture page. There is enough material on the web. And there are a ton of software tools out there : either free, low-cost or expensive.
What I want to make you aware of is this – NEVER ever promise the moon. As you will not end up delivering it.
Just picture the “average” marketer. Bribing you with a bunch of “cool” ebooks, plus weekly marketing tips delivered to your inbox. You get instantly hooked, right? This is the unfair game 98% of all IM list builders play just to capture your e-mail. You will soon find that for every “email tips” message they are sending out, two self-promotional will follow. Within 2 weeks, the list gets bombarded with promos, one after another.
This puts a bad spin on the overall list building game and makes the entire Internet marketing scene look “scam”.
If you want to capture more leads, humans that stick with you, then you cannot put your interest over theirs.
Promise less. Give more. That is what over delivering means.
#3 – The Purple Cow
Giving away the same freebies like everybody else would never help you capture more leads. When it comes to effective lead capturing, the mouse trap is everything. Not only your gift needs to improve your prospects life in a way or another [e.g. be practical and useful] but also it has to stand out in the crowd too.
Researching is crucial. What are your competitors offering to capture leads that you do not? How can you offer a better bribe and attract more subscribers?
What if your niche industry is used to giving away PDF reports or audio lessons, would offering a video tutorial make the difference?
You bet! So, instead of offering the same stuff as everybody else, look for unique ways to package and deliver your information to wow the audience you want to attract.
There you have it. 3 easy ways to capture more leads. A simple strategy that works. Yes, it takes time and it requires effort. But guess what? If each subscriber makes you $1 a month [that is the average in most niches], is it worth your time and effort?
It is your time to speak out loud.
Which is your most successful lead capture method, or how do you plan to switch the game?
